Cryotherapy team wins Bronze Medal in the Collegiate Inventors Competition

Congratulations to Team Kubanda for winning third place in the 2016 National Collegiate Inventors Competition. The Hub has a story on their work here and the National Inventors Hall of Fame details their entry here. The undergraduate team is mentored by Drs. Durr and Harvey and funded by CBID and a grant from Under Armour.

VectorWEB awarded funding for Zika surveilance

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has awarded Prof. Acharya funding for his CBID project on monitoring the vector for Zika through cloud-connected ovitraps. VectorWEB is one of 21 projects funded out of over 900 submissions from around the world. Congrats Prof. Acharya!

The Johns Hopkins University Center for Bioengineering Innovation & Design (CBID) and Jhpiego invite you to take part in a weekend design challenge to focus in the prevention of mosquito bites in an effort to reduce the spread of the Zika virus. Despite significant efforts and technological advancements, mosquitos continue to pose considerable public health problems across wide geographical areas. The public health cost is enormous. There is a recent associating between Zika virus infection and microcephaly in infants born to women infected during pregnancy and Guillain-Barre syndrome in Zika-infected individuals.

Dr. Durr/Harvey awarded Under Armour Innovation Grant

Dr. Durr and Dr. Susan Harvey were awarded a $100k Under Armour Innovation Award to fund the work of Design Team 9 in developing a low-cost cryotherapy system for breast cancer treatment in low-resource settings. The grant comes from The Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins and Under Armour. Design Team 9 is lead by Monica Rex.
